Marriage Muhurat by Date of Birth: How Your Date Is Picked

That second step is the whole point. A panchang list only knows the sky. It doesn't know either of you.

Why a printed list can't be your muhurat

Take one printed date. Vaya's panchang tool shows 61 auspicious wedding dates in 2026 for Rewa, and a family in Rewa sees the same 61 whether the bride was born under Rohini or Mula. The list is correct for what it checks: tithi, nakshatra, yoga and the closed seasons. It just stops there.

Two checks depend on your own birth details. Tarabalam compares the day's nakshatra with your birth nakshatra, which is why it can vary for different people on the same day. Chandrabalam does the same with the Moon's transit and your birth rashi, and ShubhPanchang notes that astrologers usually check both before a major event.

A wedding doubles the problem. One date has to pass for two people, and a day that is strong for the groom can sit in a weak tara for the bride. If a pandit has ever crossed out half a printed list for your family, this is the reason.

You need three things for a proper marriage muhurat by date of birth: both dates of birth, both birth times and both birth places. The date alone narrows things down. The time and place give the exact nakshatra and rashi, and that is what the two checks above run on.

The closed seasons are already in the list

Every vivah muhurat list removes the same blocks of the year, so you don't need to recheck them. VedPanchang's vivah page lists Chaturmas (the months between Dev Shayani and Dev Uthani Ekadashi), Pitru Paksha, Adhik Maas, Kharmas and the combustion of Jupiter or Venus.

What the lists don't explain is how tight this winter is. Vaya's calculator shows Chaturmas running until 20 November 2026, and then Venus going combust from about 7 December 2026 to 6 February 2027 for north Indian cities, with Kharmas from mid December to mid January inside that. Venus is the marriage planet, so the muhurat waits for it to reappear.

In plain words, a winter wedding this season has a short run of dates in late November and the first days of December. After that the next good stretch opens in February 2027. If your families are still arguing about the guest list, it might be quicker to settle the date first.

The exact cut-off differs by a day or two between cities and tools, because sunrise and the panchang method differ. Confirm the window for your own city.

The lagna at the pheras matters more than the date

A muhurat date is really a window, and the moment that counts falls inside it. Classical practice treats the Mangalsutra tying or the Saptapadi as the marriage time, and the rising sign (lagna) at that moment is checked separately from the day.

Lagna windows shift with the city, by 15 to 30 minutes between Mumbai and Delhi or Chennai, because they run on local sunrise. A muhurat worked out for Raipur is not automatically right for a destination wedding in Udaipur.

This is where real weddings slip. The baraat dances longer than planned, the jaimala photos take forty minutes, and the lagna window passes while everyone is still at the stage. Tell your event manager the lagna time as a hard deadline for the pheras, and build the evening backwards from it.

Some families also want the night lagna rather than the day one. Both can work. What matters is that the window you pick suits both charts and leaves real time for the rituals, not a twelve minute gap squeezed between two bad periods.

Kundli milan is a different job

People often mix up the two. Kundli milan asks whether the two of you suit each other, and the usual floor is 18 out of 36 gunas in Ashtakoot matching. A muhurat asks when to hold the ceremony.

A high guna score doesn't produce a date, and a good date doesn't fix a weak match. If the matching hasn't been done, do it first. A Vedic kundli consultation covers the match and the marriage side of each chart properly.

The same thinking works for the roka, sagai or tilak. They are smaller ceremonies, so the closed seasons bend a little, but the Moon checks against your own chart still apply.

What to send when you ask for a marriage muhurat

Have this ready and the work goes quickly:

• Bride's and groom's date, time and place of birth
• The city where the pheras will happen
• The months your families are considering, and any dates the venue already offers
• Whether you prefer a day or night ceremony
